Friday - Glasgow Worlds

Friday - Glasgow Worlds

Slower start today as the band leaves on a bus at 10am to the massed band parade. Everyone gathered downstairs under cloudy skies and some wind. Rain looked like a good possibility so rain capes are mandatory today.
Band members get ready to head out for the day.
The bus pulled out on time and we arrived at the starting point early. We waited a few minutes and Gord Pollock arrived as if on cue. He was welcomed onto the bus and we waited a few more minutes.... long enough for it to start raining!
Bus stop entertainment!
The band tuned up along the sidewalk right by the bus stop. Yep every two minutes a bus would pull up and bring people by to see the band play :-)

The Grade1 Qualifiers are underway as I type and I hope to get some results posted eventually

I headed down the street to get a good spot for some pictures. While this was going the band re positioned further down the road for reasons unknown. I live streamed the Grade 1 bands while I waited. :-)
Massed bands head towards George Square.
Kelly enjoys the parade.
Kris plugging along!
They came marching down George Street, around St George's Tron and into George Square.  I'll try and upload this video now.....  BTW Check out the photographer getting the heave ho at the beginning of the video.. one word..."karma". Lol

Each of the three bands that made up the massed band performed individually in the square.

Doug gets interviewed for Scottish TV
Next was a great lunch & refreshments for band members and supporters at City Hall. The banquet hall was just simply amazing!!

Amazing marble architecture!!
Absolutely stunning Banquet Room.
Jill & Alan enjoy the lunch
Some official pictures were taken of the band and the Mayor... as well as all the ladies.

Even London got into the pic!

After lunch we headed back to get the pipes dried out at the dorm. I put on my livestream to watch the last of the Qualifiers for the Grade 1 Bands but sadly saw the last performing band march out of the circle. Oh well it was a nice thought! (The qualifiers are designed to wittle down the number of bands that will play in the Finals on Saturday. )For some this is the end of the road for this 2017 Worlds competition.

For those interested you can watch the live stream on Saturday here http://www.theworlds.co.uk/Pages/LIVE-VIDEO-STREAM-2017.aspx

We had a small social as we decided on dinner for tonight. The fish supper we had last night was really good so we all decided to grab another one tonight. Easy, fast and delicious.

Next up was a quick meeting at the Todd pub to brief the band on tomorrow's activities. We all charged our glasses and then listened to J.W. as he expressed his gratitude for all the hard work that people put in to get the band here. He said to just go in and play it like they know how. He was clearly proud.

Kelly & Chelsea headed back to make some sandwiches for tomorrow lunch. The bus leaves at 07:15 am with everyone downstairs at 7 AM sharp!!  It's early to bed for everyone.

I am not sure about connectivity at the competition site but I will do my best to get info posted as soon as possible.  Depending on results I might not get the update fully competed tomorrow night. You may even see partial live updates on the next post... On The Day - Glasgow Worlds!
